Technology Autobiography

Technology is an area of my life that I am not quite distinguished at yet. I am able to understand the basic elements and components about many items within technology, but when it comes to using these items, and using them correctly, this is an area at which I lack. I am aware that there are several different types of technology, including many different types of computers and programs or websites to be viewed throughout these, but am only proficient when it comes to using these.

I have used a computer for the past fifteen years. I first used all desktops then about five years ago I bought my first laptop, and have used a laptop at home, ever since. I am able to use several of the programs on the computers I have used; Microsoft, windows, word, excel, and so on. But there are also so many more things I need to learn about the use of computers and technology. While growing up I was fortunate to have access to a computer in each of my schools. My elementary, middle, and high school each had a computer lab for the use of the students during itinerant/special area. During this time I was given the proper training to correctly turn on and off a computer, use a word processor, and use minor programs and websites. I have also been blessed with at least two computers in each classroom that I have observed or student taught in. Given this opportunity has given me more practice with the use of computers but also the chance to view the students on the computers and get familiar with the games and activities they find most interesting.

I feel it is important to use technology in every classroom and home, but there is also a line to draw at certain points. It is important to offer the use of technology in schools, especially for those children who may not be as fortunate enough to have them at home. Teachers should have the proper training and experience with the technology they are using, but also not go overboard when it comes to using too much. Paper and pencil is still a necessity in the classroom, and can be beneficial to different people. Every person learns on different levels and in different ways, so bringing all types of teaching in to the classroom, by using different types of materials and methods will benefit both you and the students. Overall, I feel as if technology is one of the more important aspects to bring in to a classroom or home, and that each and every person should have the access and opportunity to take part in using technology.

Diana,
I am glad that you have a strong background with technology. I hope that you will find lots of new ways to use technology during this class.

You are lucky to have had computers in all your schools. You seem to have learned a lot from that and grasp new technology quickly. I didn't get on a computer until middle school and didn't use the Internet until the end of high school, so I feel like I've been left behind. You also seem interested in learning new things on the computer which will keep you ahead of the rest.
